The April 2017 issue of The Legend features Jorge Pineda’s modified 2004 GTO, which came with the rare but—perhaps not so oddly—non-marketed and un-advertised W40 40th Anniversary package: Pulse Red paint and red interior accents. Only 800 of this special edition new-gen GTO were produced. Jorge, a member of California’s NorCal Goats GTOAA chapter, has been modifying his LS1, six-speed-equipped GTO “as my budget allows,” since “everyone knows when you start modifying, it never stops.” The LS1 now features a 230/238-604/605 valve-lift cam with ported and polished Advanced Induction 243 heads, long tube headers, ported throttle body, 3:91 gears, LS7 clutch, Hurst shifter, drag bags, Centerline Qualifier wheels on Mickey Thompson tires, and three-inch Magnaflow exhaust with Quick Time Performance electric cutouts for the drag strip. The car runs 11:93 @ 114 mph in the quarter-mile and delivers 21 mpg on the highway. One of Jorge’s best experiences with his ride was meeting Jim Wangers at the 2013 Club Auto Sport meet in San Jose, Calif. As Jim and Jorge parted ways, Jorge fired up the GTO. Jim “quickly turned around and said, ‘That sounds GOOD!’”
Also in the April issue: “Convention Corner 2017” with Terry and Gail Schott; “Goats on the Block” with Chuck Catalano; “Pet Peeves From Arizona” with Jeff Lovich; “Tigers on the Columbia” with Ted Knapp; “Land of Enchantment Duke City Gladiators Show” with Jamie Saavedra; and “Kirban’s Korner” with Dennis Kirban.
All this and more—classified ads, the GTOAA Club Store, etc.— in the April 2017 issue of The Legend, the only national automotive magazine devoted exclusively to Pontiac’s Great One!
