Uprising in Kansas! The May 2017 issue of The Legend features the GR-RRR8’R Wichita Pontiac Club’s 27th Annual Pontiac Uprising, held September 2016 in Great Bend, Kansas, at the SRCA drag strip. This was the first year for this event at that location, and according to the host club, it was very well received. “The folks in Great Bend, including the Convention Bureau as well as the Sunflower Rod & Custom Association, were very welcoming and accommodating. They help with everything from advertising logistics parking and more,” according to Don and Janice Duryea. “The technical session, always popular, featured Pontiac racing legend Arnie Beswick. He had some great memories to share from his long career in drag racing, including early races at Great Bend, the site of the first NHRA Nationals in 1955. Many of the legends of drag racing raced there throughout the years. There was a large selection of Pontiacs at the car show. One great feature of the location is that there is security, so you can leave your trailers there and park your RVs or whatever you need to do with no worries.” The 2017 Pontiac Uprising will be held September 8th and 9th. Don’t miss it!
Also in the May issue: “Convention Corner 2017” with Will Bowers; “Little GTOs” with Tim Sickle; “Quarter-Mile With The Judge” with Frank Fregiato; and “Kirban’s Korner” with Dennis Kirban.
