The May 2018 issue of The Legend features Jack Alongi’s 1967 GTOAA Concours Gold hardtop GTO. Jack’s first car was a Tyrol Blue 1967 GTO with an Ivory Cordova top and Parchment interior, which he sold just before he entered the Marines. Although over the years he owned two more GTOs, he’d always wanted to find one exactly like his first. In 2002, his sons, with their mom’s help, found one, and it was a numbers-matching car, loaded with many more features than the “original”: factory A/C, power front disc brakes, TH400 transmission with Hurst His/Hers shifter, power steering, sport wood steering wheel, Rally II wheels, and a rear power radio antenna. Over the course of four years, Jack performed a frame-on restoration. The GTO debuted at the 2008 GTOAA Nationals in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where it earned a Concours Gold award. Expect to see Jack and his pride and joy at the 2018 Nationals in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
Also in the May issue: “2018 Convention Corner” with Bob Krewson; “Double Vision” with Jeff Lovich; “Chevy 12-Bolt Rear” with Steve Schaeffer; “Quarter Mile” with Frank Fregiato; and “Little GTOs” with Tim Sickle.
