Matching the Numbers
For 1964 when matching engine numbers you must have the original Protect-O-Plate. With this in hand you can simply match the EUN# from the top left pad of the engine block to the EUN# on the original Protect-O-Plate to confirm. In some cases you may find the last six digits of the VIN # on the transmission as well. Everything else is simply date coded and rule of thumb is the dates should be within two months prior to the cars build date. Of course there’s always exceptions to this and new information being learned daily.
